Easy Rules for Styling Socks With Boots

Some styling suggestions in vogue are just not so, well, easy. Take mixing prints or pulling cropped pants off, for example. But others could not be easier. Case in point: styling socks with cold-weather boots. Whether the socks are finely ribbed or tall, semi or short, sexy thigh high socks, patterned or solid, all you've got to master are for nailing this fall and winter mix a tips. Lucky for you, we have already piled up them.
1. Pay attention to ratio:
As a general rule of thumb, taller boots work best with knee or knee over-the-knee socks, whereas shorter socks (think crew or trouser styles) pair nicely with ankle boots or booties.
2. Leg shape matters:
Not all trousers and jeans have been created equal. Try completing off the look with a set of hiking boots to get a fashion and tucking them into chunky or ribbed socks when wearing skinny jeans or leggings. If you are trying for cuffed or rolled pants or jeans, design your socks they're sitting up against--not below or above --the cuff.
3. Height matters
To get a shorter pair of socks, scrunch them up so that they sit right above the ankle bone. Over boots with socks that are taller, aim to hit below the knee. The height will help to draw away attention from the portions of your lower leg and keeps you looking compact and sleek , even if wearing socks.
4. Do not be scared to make a statement:
Whether it's using a bright color, contrasting neutral, or sheer pattern, socks are a simple way to split up monochrome or one-note outfits. One exception to this principle that is neutral-sock: No white athletic socks--save those for your fitness center.
5. Layer up:
When it gets really chilly (or you only want to look super cute), coating wooly socks over opaque tights, then put them with ankle boots and a skirt or dress. How's that for an outfit?
